WCMA’s collection of Persian painting figures prominently in Holly Edwards’ classes on the role of images in the Islamic world. By exhibiting our holdings with works on loan from the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum, Professor Edwards will invite graduate students in Art History 564, “Seeing is (perhaps not) Believing,” to consider painting and photography as disparate manifestations of a long image-making tradition. Students will grapple with questions of medium, figuration, visual convention, and religious conviction.
