Awarded Artists Include Julie Buffalohead (Jessica Silverman, San Francisco), Kite (Bockley Gallery, Minneapolis), and Juvana Soliven (Ontopo, New York, Honolulu)
NORTH ADAMS, Mass.—For the inaugural edition, Arrival in partnership with Williams College Museum of Art is pleased to announce the acquisition of three works by the artists Julie Buffalohead (Jessica Silverman, San Francisco), Kite (Bockley Gallery, Minneapolis), and Juvana Soliven (Ontopo Gallery, New York & Honolulu).
“We are deeply grateful to Arrival, and to the generous Williams alumni who have contributed to this acquisition fund. As the only museum in the Northern Berkshires that collects contemporary art, this partnership enables WCMA to grow its important collection, registering in real time and for future study, the ways artists are responding to the complexity of our current moment,“ says Pamela Franks, Class of 1956 Director of the Williams College Museum of Art. “Thanks to our esteemed jury of Williams alumni who have contributed their expertise as art historians and museum leaders. These three artworks mark a vital addition to our collection, and we look forward to teaching with them, and sharing them with our communities.“
“The Williams College Museum of Art is foundational to the contemporary art landscape and has incubated so many important thought leaders, artists, and even other institutions such as MASS MoCA,” says Arrival co-founder and Williams College alumna Yng-Ru Chen. “Arrival is honored to partner on this group of acquisitions from three galleries participating in our first edition, all of which beautifully reflect the geographic and programmatic diversity that Arrival is about. We are thankful to the network of Williams alumni who have contributed to the acquisition fund.”
This acquisition was selected by a jury of Williams College alumni and curatorial staff: Maggie Adler, Independent Curator; Dan Byers, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Williams College Museum of Art; Dina Deitsch, Director and Chief Curator, Tufts University Art Galleries; Louisa Gloger, Executive Director, Headlands Center for the Arts; and Veronica Roberts, John and Jill Freidenrich Director, Cantor Arts Center, Stanford University.
Generous early support for the Arrival Acquisition Fund for Williams College Museum of Art was provided by Eunhak Bae (Class of 1993) and Robert Kwak, the Williams community, and with special thanks to the Williams class of 2000.
ABOUT ARRIVAL With the inaugural edition in June 2025, Arrival is an invitational, biannual art fair situated in North Adams in the Berkshires mountains of western Massachusetts at the award-winning TOURISTS hotel, equidistant from New York City and Boston. Founded as an antidote to the frenetic pace of the art fair circuit, the first edition features exhibitors from across the United States, nominated by an esteemed team of Curatorial Ambassadors. Cultural partnerships with nearby institutions – MASS MoCA, Williams College Museum of Art, The Clark Art Institute, and more – are central to the experience of Arrival. ABOUT WILLIAM COLLEGE MUSEUM OF ART The Williams College Museum of Art (WCMA) creates and inspires transformative experiences that are integral to a liberal arts education, lifelong learning, and human connection. The museum catalyzes cross-disciplinary inquiry through art; advances the academic and experiential preparation of arts leaders; enriches the cultural ecosystem of the Berkshires; engages artists; and creates a learning community that spurs new thinking, creative activity, and civic engagement. WCMA draws on the diverse perspectives and collaborative ethos of the college to enliven the more than 15,000 works in its growing collection. Construction is now underway on WCMA’s first purpose-built home, designed by the internationally recognized Brooklyn-based firm SO–IL. The design, unveiled in March 2024, blends sustainable, living architecture with the Berkshires landscape while creating a teaching museum for the entire campus and a prominent new gateway to the college and Williamstown. The new WCMA is projected to open in 2027.
