Maren Hassinger’s practice intertwines industry and nature by creating performative installations that prompt the human body to respond to inorganic and organic forms. Walking is one of Hassinger’s signature works, assembled by twisting and bundling steel fibers. The play of light and shadow on the elements spindly extensions enliven the work as one moves around the installation.
Walking’s dynamism attests to Hassinger’s abiding affection for dance. To celebrate this component of her work, Sandra Burton and Kusika ensemble collaborated with the artist on March 9, 2018, creating a unique performance to place the installation at WMCA.
