Located in a converted garment factory, The Mistake Room serves as a platform for under-represented and emerging artists, hosting a program of international and interdisciplinary exhibitions and projects that sparks global dialogue. Garcia’s talk will survey experimental models of artistic and cultural production– artist-run spaces, publishing houses, and alternative academies– stemming from Latin America, Africa the Middle East and Asia over the last decade and consider how they might inform institution-making in the United States.
