Philip Pavia (b. 1911, Bridgeport, CT; d. 2005)

Philip Pavia is considered one of the founders of the New York school of abstract expressionism. He worked in stone and bronze, creating abstract and figural forms during a career that spanned eight decades. This sculpture, formed with blocks of Portuguese, French and Italian marble was created by Pavia after some time spent working solely in bronze. The angular blocks are placed in a circular formation that invites viewing from all angles.
